Yankee
Multiple bet consisting of 11 bets (six doubles, four trebles and one four-fold) on four selections in different events. At least two selections must be successful to get a return.

Yearling
A horse from January 1 to December 31 of the year following its birth.

Yearling sales
The principal public auctions of prospective racehorses are for yearlings, with the main sales season from August to October. Horses bought at these sales are usually put into training the following winter, ready to start racing as two-year-olds.
